I’m not going to say steal someone else’s ideas, but I will say using them for inspiration is genius. And that’s what we’re doing with these seven great flash game menu screens. From clean simplicity to excellent tertiary animation these games have something special in the way they first present themselves. When you’re trying to influence someone to look at (and hopefully play) your game, first impressions are important. So use these guys as inspiration for some great splash screens.
Inspirational Game: Globetrotter XL
Sometimes there’s a game you find that everything about it just seems perfect. Globetrotter XL may not be that game but it’s most definitely close. What kind of game is it, you ask? Well here’s how the author describes it.
“Find famous cities worldwide and improve your geographic skills.”
Wow, sounds really interesting? I know… but you gotta read the rest.
Contest - What can you do in 25 lines of ActionScript?
So what if I said, I’m going to have a contest… an ActionScript programming contest. The goal is to make something truly extraordinary, something that makes you get up and a say wow, that’s amazing. But then I throw in a catch… you only get 25 lines of ActionScript to write the whole program. That’s what kp from 25lines.com said and the results, well, they are amazing. Click the links below and check it out. At least two of the entries are games so you definitely want to give them a good look over.
ActionScript 3.0 (AS3) Coding Standards
If you are going to be good programmer, you probably should follow some standards. While this link says it’s Flex SDK coding conventions, it’s completely written for ActionScript 3.0. It’s the standard, so like it or not, it’s probably a good idea to follow it or at least attempt to follow it.
